SRC VHF radio course
Introduction to the SRC VHF course
The correct use of communication equipment is vital for safe and efficient sailing. At Linssen Yachts, we regularly organise an SRC VHF VHF course that is both informative and practical. Taught by Geert-Jan Smolders of Aquaplanning.org, this one-day course not only provides an in-depth understanding of radio communications, but also concludes with an official exam.
The importance of an SRC certificate
A Short Range Certificate (SRC) is required to use marine radios and other essential communication equipment, such as EPIRBs, PLBs and SARTs. In addition to legal obligations, the certificate provides:
- Access to international waters without communication problems.
- Improved safety standards thanks to professional training.
- Compliance with maritime regulations.
SRC marine radio course - practical and internationally recognised
A valid operating certificate is required to operate maritime transmitting equipment. In the Netherlands, the Basiscertificaat Marifonie and Marcom-B have traditionally been the most widely used. However, we recommend the UK Short Range Certificate (SRC), as this practice-oriented course perfectly suits the needs of water sports enthusiasts and small commercial shipping.
The SRC is internationally recognised and virtually equivalent in terms of authority to the Dutch Marcom-B. With this certificate, you are authorised to operate marine radiotelephones for both inland and maritime navigation. It also entitles you to use other emergency and communication equipment, such as EPIRBs, SARTs and AIS. The SRC is valid for vessels up to 200 tonnes (about 40 metres).
Choose an SRC course and benefit from a certification that perfectly matches your boating ambitions!
